The PhD program in the Computer Science and Engineering (CS&E) department consists of three components: coursework, research, and thesis preparation. Throughout your career as a doctoral student you will receive support from your Academic Advisor(s), peer and research groups, departmental program administrator as well as a number of individuals across campus who work to best facilitate your progress through your degree program. An M.S. degree requires at least 31 total credits. There are three options for the M.S. degree, Plan A thesis, Plan B project and Plan C course work. The Minor Field is defined as a minimum of 6 semester credits of coursework outside CS in a single department of the College of Science and Engineering adn is awarded by that department. The MCS degree (Master’s of Computer Science) is our course work only degree; most applicants to this degree are interested in expanding their skills but are not interested in the research aspects of computer science.

The Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) is an American mathematics institute funded by the National Science Foundation. The initial funding for the institute was approved in May 1999 and it was inaugurated in August, 2000.
